National volleyball league side Rwanda Energy Group (REG) have unveiled their 15-man squad ahead of the upcoming 2018/2019 volleyball season, which starts on November 10. After falling behind reigning champions Gisagara in the last two seasons, the white, black and red outfit signed the national team skipper Christophe Mukunzi and extended contracts of their star players as they bid for their first league title next year. Since joining the domestic volleyball league three years ago, REG have won the annual Rutsindura Memorial Tournament – both 2017 and 2018 editions – their only titles in trophy cabinet so far. “It was very important that we strengthen our team ahead of the new season. We have signed new players, who the club believes are good and experienced enough to help the team achieve its targets,” REG Team Manager Robert Ndabikunze told Times Sport on Sunday. Besides left-attacker Mukunzi, 29, other new recruits at REG include Kenyan right-attacker Moses Omondi, from Equity Volleyball in Kenya, and libero Groile Niyonkuru from IPRC-East. Hopefuls REG started training three weeks ago and are reported to have a line-up of preseason matches before the new campaign tips off next month. Full 15-player squad for 2018-19 season: Christophe Mukunzi (left attacker), Flavien Ndamukunda (left attacker), Olivier Ntagengwa (left attacker), Saviour Atama (center player), Irene Jacob Cyusa (setter), Peacemaker Twagirayesu (center player), Simon Rwigema (libero) and Friend Ndayambaje (right attacker).
