The National volleyball league side REG have appointed Benon Mugisha Barayavuga, from Sport S Uganda, as their new head coach on a one-year deal. The development was confirmed to Saturday Sport on Friday by Robert Ndabikunze, Rwanda Energy Group (REG) team manager. Mugisha takes over the club’s hot seat from former Rwanda international Pierre Marshal Kwizera, who was in charge on interim basis since June when Jean Paul Mana stepped down from the position. “We had hoped Marshal (Kwizera) could be our coach on a permanent basis but we did not agree on personal terms, which prompted us to sign Mugisha. The former still had one year on his contract as a player and he will keep playing for us till end of the 2018/19 season,” Ndabikunze said. Ahead of the forthcoming season, this year’s first runners-up of the regular league and the post-season’s Carre d’As tournament, have signed national team captain Christophe Mukunzi on a one-year deal and renewed contracts of Flavier Ndamukunda and Olivier Ntagengwa, both also on one-year deals. This publication that also learned that the club has signed a Kenyan right-attacker Moses Omondi, from Equity Volleyball in Kenya, and libero Groile Niyonkuru, from IPRC-East, to beef up the squad in bid to challenge for their first league title. The two have signed two years each. editorial@newtimes.co.rw
