Police handball club are looking to win this year’s East and Central Africa Handball Federation (ECAHF) senior club championship. The 2018 edition of the annual tournament is scheduled for November 10-17 in Zanzibar. The six-time Rwandan champions won the tournament in 2015 when it was staged in Kigali. It is also the last time it was hosted by Rwanda. According to head coach Dismas Turatsinze, players are doing well in training and have hunger and zeal to round up the season with a regional title after having a triumphant campaign on their domestic scene where they won all titles contested for this year. “I have told the players to stand up to the challenge, we are looking to win this competition for a second time, after the 2015 title. We know the kind of competition we are heading into and are ready. My boys have shown hunger and determination,” said Turatsinze. During the 2018 calendar year alone, Police have won the National Heroes Day title, the Genocide Memorial Tournament title, a record-extending sixth league title and the season-ending Carre d’As tourney’s title. The newly crowned league champions decided to take part in the regional competition after being disqualified from the African Handball Champions League late for the late confirmation. The tournament takes place on October 19-29 in Ivory Coast. editorial@newtimes.co.rw
