Rwanda Energy Group (REG) Volleyball Club have begun early preparations ahead of the 2018/2019 national volleyball league which kicks off on November 11. REG finished second in the league and Carre d’As, behind Gisagara in both competitions, and will be hoping to end their title jinx next season after recruiting some of the country’s most star players, including national team captain, Christophe Mukunzi, last week. Since the team joined the league in 2015, they are yet to a win a major title. Pierre Marshal Kwizera’s side started light training last week at Cercle Sportif de Kigali in Rugunga, before moving to NPC gymnasium at Amahoro Stadium yesterday. New signing Mukunzi has already joined new teammates in training. “We have reported to training earlier than other teams in order to give ourselves a chance to challenge for the league title next season,” REG coach Kwizera said. REG are two-time winners of the annual Rutsindura Memorial Tournament organised every year in Huye District. They claimed the 2017 edition on their debut attempt before reclaiming it this year. editorial@newtimes.co.rw
