Kilifi Club from Kenya and Uganda’s Para Taekwondo Team have joined five guest teams that will contest for honors at this year’s edition of the annual Taekwondo Ambassador’s Cup. The three-day regional competition is scheduled for October 6-8 in Kigali. Rwanda Taekwondo Federation president, Placide Bagabo, confirmed the development to Sunday Sport on Saturday. “The two teams have confirmed their participation, joining another five-team line-up of foreign sides to compete for medals in this year’s Ambassador’s Cup. I believe many more teams will register towards the October 1 deadline,” said Bagabo. Last year, Rwanda finished top of the medal table ahead of Uganda and Kenya, who took silver and bronze medals, respectively. In club ranking, Rwanda’s Dream Taekwondo Club, lifted the trophy, followed by Team Uganda and IYF Taekwondo Club from Kimironko. Dream Taekwondo Club claimed a total eight gold medals through Eric Byukusenge, Geoffrey Gatali (men’s junior category), Nadege Murerwa (women’s junior category), Beatrice Akimana (-62kgs category), Aline Ndacyayisenga (women’s heavyweight) and Denise Uwase (-44kgs). Mussa Twizeyimana (feather weight) and Raisa Umurerwa (-U53kgs) were the other gold medal winners for Dream Club. editorial@newtimes.co.rw
