The University of Tourism, Technology and Business Studies (UTB) volleyball club are in advanced talks with Rwanda international Aimable Mutuyimana for a possible move to the varsity side ahead of the 2018-19 season. The left-attacker is out of contract at Rwanda Energy Group (REG) volleyball club. Mutuyimana, 26, played a pivotal role as REG finished second in the 2017-18 season’s volleyball league and second in the Genocide Memorial Tournament before lifting the Rutsindura Memorial Tournament’s title in Huye district. According to the newly appointed UTB coach, Fidele Nyirimana, the two parties are in advanced talks and Mutuyimana could soon become the latest addition to his squad as he eyes to guide the Kicukiro-based side to a historic first league title. “We are in talks with the player (Aimable Mutuyimana) and he is expected to sign with us next week. We want to build a strong team that can challenge for titles, the days of just participating are long-gone,” said the former Gisagara head coach. The pursuit of the former APR spiker follows the arrival of star setter Ivan Mahoro Nsabimana who signed a three-year deal with UTB a fortnight ago. The celebrated left-attacker was part of the national U23 team that finished fourth in African championships staged in Libya. He received his maiden call-up in the senior national team in 2011 and has since been a regular in various international competitions. Mutuyimana also captained the famous U21 national team that finished third at the Africa U21 Championship in Tunisia, in 2013, to qualify for U21 World Championship in Turkey, editorial@newtimes.co.rw
