The construction of a $3 million (about Frw1.6bn) bio-energy plant in Rubavu District, Western Province will start January next year, management has announced. Michael Munyaneza, the director of finance and corporate affairs Biomass Renewable Energy-Rwanda (BRER) said Bralirwa will consume 600 kilowatts of bio-energy generated from the plant. While the reaming 400 kilowatts will be sold to government. BRER is jointly owned by two Rwandans, an American and Biomass Energy (BME), a Germany firm which also owns the technology to be used. They target to promote rural electrification in the country through exploiting other sources of energy other than hydro electricity. The high performance biogas plant is expected to have a capacity to generate I megawatt of power in the final phase. BRER is set to invest 100 per cent in the project while Bralirwa commits to consume 600 kilowatts of electricity produced. Ends
