Kiyovu Sports cemented their dream revenge against Sunrise FC thanks to a 4-0 thumping in a Primus National League week 26 game held at the Kigali Pele Stadium on Wednesday, April 3. Alfred Leku and Richard Kilongozi scored two goals apiece as the Mumena-based put Jackson Mayanja’s side to the sword. Sunrise fell short of solutions as they failed to cope with a Kiyovu side which looked like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour, after the visitors beat them last season to end their title hopes forever. Kiyovu at the time lost the title to APR on goal difference. As the game started, Sunrise made the first incursion through Emmanuel Kwaku Sarfo who raced into Kiyovu’s own half but his effort was blocked by Felicien Hakizimana. The home side opened the scoring through their very first chance of the game after just seven minutes of action. Leku connected beautifully from Djuma Nizeyimana’s cross to send few supporters inside the stadium into a frenzy mood. Joslin Bipfubusa’s side could have doubled the lead two minutes later but Kilongozi had his shot inside the penalty box saved by Didier Mfashingabo after the former was easily beaten Frank Onyeabor. The hosts continued to dominate possession and pinned Sunrise into their own half. The visitors could not move forward. Kilongozi drifted wide to the right and, in a swift counter attack, he lobbed the ball pass an on-rushing goalkeeper Mfashingabo for Kiyovu's second goal in the 39th minute. Leku made it 3-0 in the 43rd minute as he powered home a header from a Hakim Tuyisenge’s set piece from the corner. After the break, Sunrise came into the game brightly as they threatened to reduce the deficit. Their back four was, however, still porous as Kilongozi found spaces to freely move with or without the ball. The striker made it 4-0 for Kiyovu with a low grounder in the 56th minute. The tempo of the game slowed down after Kiyovu's fourth goal as Sunrise found it too difficult to make a turnaround. Bipfubusa and his men were looking relaxed a bit and allowed Sunrise to do all the running. The Burundian tactician brought on Fred Muhozi for Leku as the attacking midfielder played just behind Kilongozi. Sunrise had some decent chances to score a face saving goal but Yafes Mubiru and Robert Mukoghotya missed them all as the game ended 4-0 in favor of Kiyovu Sports. The win saw Kiyovu move up in seventh place on the table with four game to go while a win for Bugesera against Marines FC on Friday could see Sunrise drop into relegation zone. Elsewhere, Musanze FC beat Gasogi United 2-1 at Ubworoherane Stadium. Aime Gassissou, Kokotte Udo score in either half for the home side while Hamis Hakim found the back of the net for Gasogi.
