Rwanda U-20 handball team coach Anaclet Bagirishya has summoned a provisional 20-player squad for residential camp – starting today – ahead of the 2018 IHF Africa Challenge Trophy tournament scheduled for August 8-12 in Kigali. The twenty youthful players report to residential camp today at The Mirror Hotel, in Remera. Rwanda qualified for the biennial continental tournament in May after beating Uganda 32:27 to won Zone 5 qualifiers competition staged in Uganda. The team starts rigorous training at Amahoro Stadium today – two training sessions daily – under the guidance of Bagirishya, assisted by Sylvestre Mudaharishema and goalkeepers coach Alberto Unjima. Twelve teams in the Youth and Junior categories have confirmed they will participate in the 2018 IHF Africa Challenge Trophy tournament next month. From August 8-12, the Rwandan capital will host the junior (players born in 1998 and younger) and Youth (players born in 2000 and younger) competitions which feature six nations each. The winners of each competition in Rwanda will qualify through to the IHF Trophy Intercontinental Phase to be held later this year.
