The finale of the second edition of Urutozi Challenge Dance competition is finally here after its postponement in December, 2023. The competition is scheduled to take place at Mundi Center on Saturday, March 30. The six finalists are African Mirror, Indaro Crew, KTY, Dance Crew, Urban Dance, Family Dikelo and IMD dance crews. Organised by Urutozi Gakondo, the contest is part of the fashion house’s move to not only support dance among local choreography talents but also promote the best of its Made in Rwanda fashion products designed by its own designers. Patrick Rukundo, one of the contest’s organizers told The New Times that the competition had to be postponed upon the request from the dance crews because after the semi-finals they had to prepare to go back to school. This time, the dancing competition did not only focus on promoting dance and Made in Rwanda products, but also called on youth to stop drug abuse, which is in line with ‘Tunyweless’, the government’s new campaign that seeks to curb the rise of alcohol consumption in the country. The finale will be headlined by rapper and former Tuff gang member Green P, while DJ Lamper and DJ Kelly will entertain revelers with the best music selections from their decks. Urutozi’s growth on the local fashion scene has been enjoying an incredible rise since its inception in 2020, as its collections continue to attract the attention of fashion enthusiasts in Kigali. The overall winner of the competition will this time bag Rwf1,000,000, second runner up Rwf500, 000 and third runner up Rwf300, 000, which is different from the first edition where the winner of the contest was the only one awarded. Entrance at the grand finale is open to the public and free of charge.
