Three-time winners, Egypt, Mali and Cameroon are set to arrive in the county today ahead of the African youth championship which gets underway on Sunday at Amahoro stadium. The CAN U-20 Local organizing Committee (LOC) Spokesman Jules Kalisa said yesterday that the three countries arrive today aboard Ethiopian and Kenya Airways respectively. Egypt who has won the African youth title thrice will be vying for her fourth title as well as sharpen her ability and potential before hosting the Fifa World Youth Cup later this year. Cameroon who won the title in 1995 after a 4-0 rout of Burundi has spent nearly three weeks undergoing intensive training in Nairobi, Kenya and would be hoping to bounce back into the limelight of youth football dominance. Mali who reached the CAN U-20 youth finals in 1989 before losing to Nigeria 0-1 has been camping in Bujumbura, Burundi and opens her campaign against Rwanda in the opener due on Sunday at Amahoro stadium. Milles Collines, Top Tower Hotel and Alpha Palace been have short listed by the local organizing committee to accommodate Egypt, Cameroon and Mali respectively. Hosts Rwanda Mali, Cameroon and Ghana are drawn in Group A while South Africa’s Amajita is drawn in group B against favorite winners, Nigeria, Ivory Coast and Fifa Under-20 World Cup hosts Egypt. Group A countries will use Amahoro stadium, Riviera high school grounds, Gatenga and Rugunga Cercle Sportif as their training grounds while Remera, Mumena, Kicukiro and Nyamirambo have been allocated to group B countries. Rwanda opens the competition against Mali at Amahoro Stadium this Sunday before another cracker sees Ghana taking on arch rivals Cameroon. The Caf African Youth Championship is a major international football competition for Caf nations, played by under-20 years-old players. The Caf U-20 African Championship is held every two years with the top 4 teams qualifying for the Fifa World Youth Championship. Ends
