The annual Carre d’As volleyball tournament, a showpiece that is contested by the league’s top four, has been postponed to July 21-22 at Amahoro Stadium. The two-day tournament was initially scheduled for this weekend, July 14-15. According to Rwanda Volleyball Federation (FRVB), the competition’s postponement was influenced by the main sponsor, SORAS. Société Rwandaise d’Assurances (SORAS) pump Rwf6m in the organization of the Carré d’As tournament every year. “The sponsor of the tournament requested that we push it a bit further, explaining that they would not be available on July 14-15 for valid reasons. We sat as a federation and decided to grant the request,” FRVB Secretary General Adlbert Mfashimana said. The two-day tourney is contested by the league’s top four teams in the men’s and women’s category to mark the end of the season. This year’s Carre d’As title in men’s showpiece will be contested by; league champions Gisagara, Rwanda Energy group (REG), APR and the University of Tourism Technology and Business Studies, UTB. The women’s fray is comprised of six-time reigning league champions Rwanda Revenue Authority (RRA), APR, Kigali Volleyball Club (KVC) and Ruhango. Last year, Kirehe (men) and RRA (women) clinched the titles after beating APR (men and women) in the finals. The insurers company – Soras – has been sponsoring Carré d’As tournament since 2002. editorial@newtimes.co.rw
