The national U18 beach volleyball teams, boys and girls, are enthusiastic on putting up a strong fight at the upcoming 3rd African Youth Games due July 18-28 in Algeria, to secure tickets to this year’s Youth Olympic Games. The 2018 Youth Olympic Games are scheduled for October 6-18 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The youth teams which are in residential camp for intensive preparations since last week, are the under the tutelage of head coach Christophe Mudahinyuka – who believes that his boys and girls and talented and capable to accomplish the mission in Algeria. “The boys and girls are doing great in camp and are fired up to impress on continental stage. The target in Algeria is to qualify for the Youth Olympic Games, which means we have to reach the final. It’ll be a very tough competition but we are determined to do all the needful,” he said. He further noted that, “I believe we can do it. We know the matches will be tough, but we don’t have any other choice, we must focus and give our best.” At the 10-day long multi-discipline competitions in Algeria, Rwanda will also be represented in athletics and karate. The beach volleyball teams will depart for Algiers on July 15 while their karate and athletics counterparts will travel on July 20. editorial@newtimes.co.rw
