The national men and women sitting volleyball teams have been trimmed from 15-player provisional squads to 12 players each, as they gear up for theahead of the 2018 World Sitting Volleyball Championships – set for July 15-22 in the Netherlands. After three months of non-residential training at Amahoro Stadium, the two teams reported to residential camp at Galileo Hotel in Huye district last week and have since been having two daily training sessions at University of Rwanda – Huye Campus courts. At the week-long world championships, debutants Rwanda is in Group A with Croatia, Canada and hosts Netherlands in the womens category while the mens team is in Group A hosts Netherlands, the United States and China. “So far so good in camp. Now that we have the final squads, we can have more focused preparations, study each opponent separately and set a shared mission at the competitions,” Gakwaya told Times Sport in an interview yesterday. The two teams, which will represent Africa along with Egypt (men and women), will depart for Netherlands on July 12, three days before the tournament kicks off.
