Donatille Mukabalisa, the President of Liberal Party (PL) who is also the Speaker of Parliament, on Sunday March 24, announced they will endorse incumbent President Paul Kagame who will be the flagbearer of RPF-Inkotanyi in the presidential elections in July. We will campaign and vote for him. We also urge other Rwandans to vote for President Paul Kagame,” she said. ALSO READ: PDI party endorses Kagame’s 2024 candidacy She explained that given that “President Kagame led the struggle to liberate the country and stop 1994 Genocide against Tutsi, he deserves to continue leading the country to gain from his legacy.” ALSO READ: Ten things to know about 2024 presidential, parliamentary elections “He was characterized by good leadership and as we continue with the struggle to develop our country, we endorse President Kagame in developing different sectors such as agriculture, education, health, and security. We have experienced huge development over the past 30 years, Kagame has fostered diplomacy and we believe he is the potential candidate to continue leading our country,” she noted. Rene Kubwimana, a PL member in Kicukiro District, said considering that President Kagame led other youth to liberate the country, young people still need to learn from his leadership. “Youth and women are well supported in national development. Youth are engaged in political positions thanks to President Paul Kagame,” he said. Lydia Mushimiyimana, another PL member in Rwamagana District, added that women empowerment under President Kagame is one of several reasons why they will campaign for the incumbent during presidential elections. “Women are in leadership positions, we are given space to make decisions, we have equal rights to property and Kagame leads the campaign in eliminating gender-based violence. We have to endorse him in July elections,” she said. On March 9, Kagame was voted by the RPF National Congress as its candidate for the 2024 elections. Presidential and parliamentary elections are scheduled for July 14-16, according to the calendar released by the National Electoral Commission (NEC). NEC will start receiving candidacies for the presidency and members of parliament from May 17-30. The campaign period will begin on June 22 and close on July 13 before voting gets underway from July 14 to 16. The provisional results of the elections will be announced on July 20, while the final results will be announced on July 27.
