The biennial one-week long tournament started on June 17 and will run through June 22. On Monday, Yves Murenzi’s boys side walloped the hosts Tanzania in a 85-45 emphatic win to secure a second consecutive win following Sunday’s opening 86-44 opening victory. Forward Jean de Dieu Umuhoza posted a game high 18 points to inspire the 2016 FIBA Africa Zone V U16 champions to the victory. US-based Danny Nabil Rurangirwa contributed 15 points while Thierry Nkundwa added 13 points. Rwanda effortlessly took the first three quarters 17-9, 29-8 and 22-10 before the hosts snatched a hardly fought final quarter 18-17. Today, the boys will play their third game against Uganda – starting at 3pm Kigali time. Meanwhile, Rwanda also got off to a flying start in the girls’ competition, defeating Uganda 46-35. Thanks to Bella Murekatete’s game’s high 18 points. Hope Butera added 13 points. In the second game today, they face hosts Tanzania.
