THE national athletics federation plans to open its busy calendar with an Interclubs championship later this month, but the dates are yet to be confirmed. The local athletics federation confirmed the development Thursday when revealing its competition programme for the sporting year 2009. The interclubs’ competition is expected to attract 20 local clubs, and will be held in Kigali but the venue is yet to be known also as Amahoro stadium will be hosting the 16th African Youth Championships which begins on January 18 and winds up on February 1. Clubs which have been confirmed to send their athletes include; APR, New Athletics Stars. Others Police, Puma, Gatenga, Gasabo, the National University of Rwanda, Kirehe, Nyamasheke, Ruhango, Huye, Muhanga, Kamonyi, Rulindo, Burera, Gicumbi, Rutsiro, A.A.D/Nyabihu, Rusizi and Urumuri. The season’s curtain riser will be followed by the national cross country championship which will be held in Bugesera in the Eastern Province. Winners of the local championship will automatically qualify to represent Rwanda at the 37th Iaaf World Cross Country Championship due to be held in Jordan on March 28. Ends
