Wednesday AS Kigali 1-0 Marines Midfielder Evode Ntwali came off the bench to score a second-half winner as AS Kigali defeated Marines 1-0 yesterday at Kigali Stadium to unseat leaders APR atop of the table. After twenty-five of the thirty league games to play this season, AS Kigali lead the standings with 51 points, one ahead of second-placed APR who have played one game less. Ntwali, 24, broke the deadlock with a stunning 66th minute goal after the good work of Tumaine Ntamuhanga, who also came in for Rodriquez Murengezi as a second-half substitute. The lone scorer Ntwali came off the bench after recess, replacing injured Hamidu Ndayisaba. The closely fought victory took Eric Nshimiyimana’s hopefuls one point clear at the summit and, will be hoping archrivals APR drop points when they face Police this Sunday on Match-day 25 – at Kigali Stadium. After Wednesday’s hard-earned three points, AS Kigali will be back in action on June 16, playing away to Kirehe FC at Nyakarambi grounds. After two consecutive defeats against Etincelles and AS Kigali, Marines are currently in 14th position with 24 points and two games in hand. Struggling Gicumbi (21) and relegation-bound Miroplast (17) rank 15th and 16th respectively. editorial@newtimes.co.rw
