APR athletics Club runner and half-marathon gold medalist at this year’s Kigali International Peace Marathon, Noel Hitimana, has upped preparations for the upcoming Bugesera 20km race race. The 4th edition of the annual event is set for June 17 in Bugesera District, Eastern Procince. Hitimana, 24, struck gold at the 14th Kigali Peace Marathon on May 20 to become the second Rwandan to do so in men’s half marathon event after veteran Dieudone Disi twelve years ago. While talking to Times Sport on Tuesday, Hitimana revealed that he will be taking part in the Bugesere 20km race for the first time and his goal is to register a memorable debut in the event. “I have started intensive preparations for the competition; I want to win it at first attempt. Bugesera 20km race has steadily grown to become one of the leading athletics events in the country, everyone will be targeting the top prize. It will be difficult to win,” Said Hitimana. The middle and long distance sensation had a 2-month training camp at the IAAF high performance center in Eldoret, Kenya. He believes the opportunity to train alongside the world’s leading athletes has bolstered his confidence and broadened his imagination capacity. The year’s event is set to attract a record 2000 participants and has been dedicated to the fight against drugs, corruption, and unplanned pregnancy. editorial@newtimes.co.rw
