PSL orders clubs to release Amajita players

SOUTH AFRICAN Premier League body (PSL) has advised teams that are refusing to release their players to Amajita for the African Youth Championships to be held in Rwanda in two weeks’ time to do so, or else face the consequences. The PSL chairman Irvin Khoza told Kickoff.com that clubs should allow their players join the junior team camp for the good of the country and in the spirit of sportsmanship. Khoza, who doubles as South Africa Football Association (Safa) vice-president further added, “We have told them that all the players who were involved in the qualifications should be there and that is what we expect them to do.” The players who are not yet in camp are Thulani Serero and Sameehg Doutie from Ajax Cape Town, Kamohelo Mokotjo and Masibusane Zongo from SuperSport United, Phumelele Bhengu and Ramahlwe Maphahlele from Moroka Swallows and Holland-based Kermit Erasmus, who turns out for Feneyoord. “All these players played a part in the qualifiers and why should we not have them now. The teams should tell us if there are problems and then we can see how best we can solve them,” Khoza says. SuperSport United coach Gavin Hunt insists that the players they have released are enough and that they will not budge in releasing more than two players. “We have given them two players and that is okay for a national team to use. We are not even sure whether these games are under the Fifa dates, but we will not release Zongo and Mokotjo,” he added. Meanwhile, SuperSport striker George Maluleka and Under-20 Metropolitan Player of the Series 2008, Philane Khwela, are currently in the Amajita camp. Ends
