American point guard William Perry put up a remarkable performance as his team Patriots Basketball Club edged bitter rivals Rwanda Energy Group (REG) 73-67 on Friday, March 15 at Lycee de Kigali Gymnasium. Perry who posted 21 points, 9 rebounds and 9 assists was a standout performer on the night, thanks to his shooting, ball handling and hard work. REG fought back, winning the second quarter 19-16 to go into half-time with a 38-34 score-line in favour of the Patriots. In the second half, Perry and his teammates continued to push, outscoring REG 21-14 in the third quarter. Although REG mounted a comeback in the final quarter, winning it 19-14, it was not enough to secure the victory. In addition to Perry’s performance, his teammates Dieudonné Ndizeye and Frank Kamdoh also made significant contributions, adding 17 and 16 points respectively. On REG’s side, point guard Benjamin Mukengerwa led the team with 14 points, 2 rebounds and 1 assist, while shooting guard Prince Muhizi and newly acquired American point guard Antino Jackson added 13 and 7 points respectively. With the win, the Patriots climbed to second place on the table with 12 points, level with APR, who lead the on point difference. Both Patriots and APR remain unbeaten so far this season, setting the stage for an intense showdown between the two on Wednesday, March 20.
