Twenty-one Rwandan athletes have started residential camp for intensive preparations ahead of the 14th Kigali International Peace Marathon scheduled for May 20. Over 8000 participants from around the world are expected to participate in the multi-category race. The team, in camp in northern Gicumbi District, is under the tutelage of Eric Karasira, the head coach. “All the players have already reported to camp and are training very hard to make sure that we have a strong team that is able to win medals come May 20. The mood and confidence level in the camp are high,” Karasira told Times Sport from Gicumbi. Last year, sensational 20-year-old Salome Nyirarukundo became the first Rwandan to win the women’s half marathon in the annual race. The race is comprised three categories; full marathon (42km), half marathon (21km) and a 7km run-for-fun, which is open to members of the public who registered.
