Results Zambia 1 Burundi 1 Djibouti 1 Sudan 1 KAMPALA - Djibouti who conceded 32 goals in the 2010 World Cup/Africa Nations Cup qualifiers make history this evening when they held defending champions Sudan to a 1-all draw in a group B game played at Bugembe stadium in the on-going Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup. Eltahib Elmahi gave Sudan the lead in the 16th minute, but the Djibouti team came back strongly in the second half to make it 1-1 after 51 minutes. Daher Ahmed netted for Djibouti who are practically out of the tournament after losing the first two games and drawing the third. In an earlier game, table leaders Zambia surrendered the lead to draw 1-1 with a battle hardened Burundian team. The Chipolopolo took the lead in the 60th minute through Roger Kola, but the Burundians replied with an equalizer in stoppage time. Claude Nihimana who netted a brace in their 4-0 win over Djibouti found the Zambian backline flat footed and sent a hard shot past goalkeeper Jacob Banda. Zambia also had Kebby Hatchipuka sent off for a second booking. “We have been punished for over confidence and thinking the game was over,” said a bitter Zambian Coach Herve Renard. Burundi ’s coach Gilbert Kanyenkore said his team followed instructions and should have picked all the three points. “We pinned the Zambians in their own half in the second half and should have scored three goals,” said Kanyenkore. The GTV sponsored tournament will climax on January 13 with the finals at Mandela national stadium, Namboole. The winners will pocket US$300,000, runner-up US$20,000 and the third placed US$10,000.
