The Rwanda Chess Federation (FERWADE) says it will be hosting its annual Genocide Memorial Chess Tournament (GMCT) in remembrance of the country’s sportsmen and women killed during the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, on June 8-10, in Kigali. FERWADE president Kevin Ganza told Times Sport they will organise the fifth edition of the tournament in collaboration with the Ministry of Sports and Culture and the National Olympic and Sport Committee. Ganza said: “It will be an international tournament, and players from other Chess Federations will join us in this commemoration event. “Last year’s event attracted players from seven federations (countries) and we hope more will join us, come June. We believe in unity and we will always remember Genocide victims.” editorial@newtimes.co.rw
