APR midfielder Djihad Bizimana yesterday left the country for one-week professional trials with Belgian first division side Waasland-Beveren, according to APR general-secretary Adolphe Kalisa. Bizimana joined APR three years ago and has since been an influential player at the club helping them to two league titles and one Peace Cup. He made an impression on the Belgian team’s scouts during this year’s CHAN tournament in Morocco, sources said. Bizimana was one of the standout players for Amavubi at the tournament. The 21-year-old has a year left on his contract with APR but Kalisa says he will be allowed to leave if he impresses during trials. “It’s true he has gone for trials and if he passes then we will discuss his future,” Kalisa said. Last year, the midfielder went to Bundesliga club Fortuna Dusseldorf for trials but fell short. Bizimana has been involved with the U-20, U-23 and senior Amavubi teams. He started his career with Etincelles before joining Rayon Sports where he played two seasons and later joined APR in 2015. editorial@newtimes.co.rw
