The fifth edition of the annual regional ladies cricket tournament will be played in June, according to Rwanda Cricket Association (RCA). The annual tournament is aimed at commemorating the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, which killed over one million people in just hundred days. According to the RCA general manager Emmanuel Byirigiro, this year’s edition is scheduled June 7-9 at Gahanga cricket ground. “We invited Uganda and Kenya but they are yet to confirm,” he said. Around 26 national cricket players are set to resume training next week under head coach and RCA development manager Joshwa Mwanja, Byirigiro said. The ultimate squad of 14 will be selected ahead of the tournament after the first phase of pre-tournament training, he added. Last year, the tournament attracted four teams, from Uganda (U19 and U23), Kenya, and then Rwanda. Kenya ladies cricket team won last year’s edition. editorial@newtimes.co.rw
