Rayon Sports are planning to offer interim head coach Ivan Mineart a permanent contract, the club secretary general Bernard Itangishaka has confirmed. On Sunday, the ‘Blues’ lost 2-0 to Mamelodi Sundowns in the CAF Champions League first round second leg in Pretoria. The two goals, from Wayne Arendse Sebusiso Vilakazi, were enough to hand the South Africans a ticket to the group stage. It was the end of the road for Rwanda champions Rayon Sports in Africa’s biggest club football competition. Rayon Sports join teams in CAF Confederation Cup play-offs, slated for April. Former Mukura coach, Minaert, back at Rayon Sports for a second spell, was given six matches to earn the job permanently to replace Olivier Karekezi, but according to Itangishaka, the Belgian has done more than enough in four matches to earn the job. “I can confirm that Mineart will be given the job after doing great job as interim coach. He has done well with his initial task of winning the remaining three league matches in first round and Peace Cup—he also did well in CAF Champions League tie against Mamelodi Sundown,” Itangishaka told Times Sport. editorial@newtimes.co.rw
