SOUTHERN PROVINCE MUHANGA — a group of genocide survivors in Muhanga district have resolved to promote education and love among the child headed house holds in the coming year. The orphans made the resolutions on December 21, during a Christmas and Happy New Year’s celebration held at the district cultural center. The party was organized by the district authorities and the Association of Child Headed Households (AOCM) and attracted hundreds of orphans throughout the district. Immaculée Nishimwe, the secretary of AOCM-Muhanga told this reporter that the orphans have tremendous potential of improving and forging a new lifestyle during this coming year. ‘We have resolved to put more efforts in improving the school performance of all the orphans, and are committed to send all school drop- outs back to school, while encouraging job creation and entrepreneurship especially for those undertaking vocational training’, Nishimwe said. She added that the orphans will also work on building a strong relationship based on love between the various households and to share the thrills and tribulations of life as ‘one loving family’. AOCM-Muhanga committee also awarded four best performing secondary school orphans with scholastic material in a bid to encourage schooling orphans to improve their performance standards. The vice mayor of Muhanga, Alice Uwimbabazi also encouraged the group to be vigilant and creative in life through seeking jobs and creating income generating projects promising continued support from the association.
