Local female gospel singers, Diana Kamugisha and rapper The Pink, born Clarisse Uwineza, have released a brand new collabo dubbed, Mpanagurwe. Speaking to The New Times on Monday about their new song, Kamugisha said the song will uplift their fans. The title of the song is derived from a Kinyarwanda hymn Hari hw’icyo nkwaka Mwami, and has a touch of modern music. It’s the first time; the two have done a song together. It’s the latest project in an already busy year for both songstresses having already worked on other individual songs. “The song is a prayer and an encouragement as we begin the New Year,” said Kamugisha, adding that: “I felt that there are people out there who want to move a step further but do not know how and so the song is a prayer asking Jesus to cleanse us and show us the way. It is for those who yearn to draw closer to God.” Kamugisha has already enjoyed massive success on the local music scene with a number of albums under her belt, while The Pink is a newcomer but a force to be reckoned with. Mpanagurwe is composed in the four languages of Kinyarwanda, English, Swahili and French. editorial@newtimes.co.rw
