SA camp shifted to Kenya

SOUTH Africa’s U-20 team, Amajita has shifted its training camp to Kenya in a bid to sharpen themselves for next month’s Africa Youth Championship in Kigali. Amajita were initially scheduled to hold a one-week training camp in Kigali from December 15-22 but the move failed to materialize for unknown reasons. According to the Sowetan, the team fresh from the Cosafa Under-20 championships in South Africa will now camp in Kenya as part of their final preparations for the tournament which runs from January 18-February 1. “Amajita are off to Kenya on January 11 to wrap up their preparations for the tournament,” said Stanley Tshabalala, Safa head of junior national teams. The team is expected to assemble on January 8 but Amajita’s head coach Letsoaka Serame wants them to meet earlier. “Serame has asked for the camp to start on January 4, but the matter is still being discussed with the chief executive (Raymond Hack). It is said that Serame is desperate to spend more days with the players. Some of the Amajita household names include Ramahlwe Mphahlele, Phumelelo Bhengu, Tlou Molekwane, Daylon Claasen and Michael Morton. While in Kenya, the South Africans are expected to play a couple of friendly games against some top teams. South Africa is drawn in group B against favorites, Nigeria, Ivory Coast and Fifa U-20 World Cup hosts Egypt while hosts Rwanda, Mali, Cameroon and Ghana were placed in Group A. Ends
