Early Christmas for youngsters at kids festival

It was a weekend of fun for children who attended a two-day Christmas kids’ festival at Spiderman Game Centre in Masaka, which ended Sunday. Kids of different ages attended the festival, which was characterised by games and different play materials, which enabled the children to enjoy and get into the celebratory Christmas mood. Kids play different games during Christmas Kids Festivals Accompanied by their parents, children enjoyed toys and took part in different competitions under the guidance of comedian Arthur Nkusi and media personality Anita Pendo. The youngsters participated in modelling, among others, and walked away with prizes. To make the festival fun, there was a place for food and drinks not only for children but also accompanying parents and guardians. Parents escorted their children to come in Christmas Kids Festival Jovia Nkurunziza, the director of Spiderman Game Centre, said the festival – this having been the second edition – aimed at creating a space for children and parents to interact and enjoy ahead of Christmas. Parents paid Rwf5,000 per child to access the venue. “We prepared a Christmas cake for children to cut and share with their parents and also ensured that we bring on board comedians loved the children to host the festival. We also organised different competitions,” she said. They work the whole week and attend weddings and other activities over the weekend. They should find a day in a week to spend time with their children,” she said. Children pose in photo The children’s centre was previously located in Makuza Peace Plaza in downtown Kigali but later relocated to Masaka for more space. “I am happy I brought my son here to meet other children, play and interact with them,” said Domina Nyampinga, a parent and resident of Masaka, who had accompanied her 7-year old son. Aimable Nshimiyumukiza, a parent from Niboye, Kicukiro, said even fathers have the responsibility to make time to spend with their children in such activities. “It is not a duty of mothers alone. We all need to play an equal role in raising children. This is why I brought my kids to play and enjoy,” he said. The festival ended on Sunday evening. editorial@newtimes.co.rw
