Rwanda Energy Group have strengthened their team with five new players and have set themselves a target to win the national volleyball league title—the new season will start on January 13, 2018. Head coach Jean Paul Mana has vowed to lead REG to their first league title in their second season playing in the first division. “We want to be ready for the new season, we are preparing for it as a team. The focus is to do better than last season, which means challenging for the league title,” Mana said. He added that, “We have everything to win the title. We know other teams are also preparing well and have similar ambitions, but we hope that with the new players that we have signed, we’ll have a successful campaign.” Mana noted that most of the players they have signed know what it means to win the league having tasted success with their previous clubs and they will want to do the same with REG. “We have signed champion players, who we believe will bring a winning mentality to our team,” he noted. REG have signed left attackers Olivier Ntagengwa from University of Kibungo and Flavier Ndamukunda (Gisagara), right attacker Martial Inkoramutima (Petit Seminaire de Butare), center Pierre Marshal Kwizera (Gisagara), libero Simeon Rwigema (Rusumo High School) and Sylvester Ndayisaba (Kirehe). REG finished fifth last season and they have released several players including; Barack Rugira, Marco Rukeba, Pacifique Iradukunda and Cedrick Ngaboyintwari. The league will be played in two phases of home and away while the top four will meet in the Playoffs which will determine the winner of the league for both men and women.. editorial@newtimes.co.rw
