Michael Nees’s tenure as Amavubi Stars’ head coach came to an end yesterday after he was denied a new contract, Times Sport can exclusively reveal. The Sports Minister, Joseph Habineza told Times Sport yesterday that the one-year contract of the Germany born tactician ended yesterday (October 1) and that no new deal will be given to him. “His contract as Amavubi Stars’ head coach has been terminated and this was reached after evaluation of his work last month,” Habineza said. With World Cup and Nations’ Cup preliminaries and qualifiers around the corner, the local football governing body, Ferwafa will move swiftly to name a coach. The Ferwafa president, Brig. Gen. John Bosco Kazura said yesterday that the federation will soon start to advertise the vacant post to interested candidates. However, Kazura refuted speculations that Ferwafa has recruited a former Croatian international, Vedran Rozic to guide the to the 2010 Nations’ Cup finals to be held in Angola. “Those are speculations. The fact is that we have not yet recruited another coach. We hope to reveal factual details about the new Amavubi Stars coach before the end of this month,” Kazura said. Nees signed a one-year contract last September with a mission to guide Rwanda to CAN Ghana2008 but two wins and four losses from six qualifiers were not enough to convince his bosses of his ability. The Amavubi Stars finished on third position with six points, nine points behind leaders Cameroon in group five.Ends
