Three people, including the incumbent president Vincent Nzamwita, have expressed interest in the presidency of Rwanda Football Federation (FERWAFA). Félicité Rwemalika, the vice president of Rwanda Olympic Committee, and Louis Rurangirwa, former president of Rwanda Athletics Federation (RAF), are seeking to unseat Nzamwita in the December 30 elections. The deadline for submission of nomination papers was November 28, and Nzamwita was the first to submit his papers to the FERWAFA electoral commission. Nzamwita was accompanied by Miroplast secretary general Alexis Nshimiyimana, United Stars president Vedaste Ngendahayo, and Gicumbi FC secretary general Antoine Dukuzimana. Rwemalika, the FERWAFA Executive Committee member in charge of women football, who also doubles as the vice president of Rwanda Olympic and Sport Committee, was the second to submit her bid at 16:15pm beating the deadline by forty five minutes. She was represented by Gasabo United president Raoul Gisanura, who was in the company of Heroes FC president Fidele Kanamugire and member of the FERWAFA Legal Committee, Safari Rutagenga. With a minute left to the deadline, the former president of the Rwanda Athletics Federation and referees, Rurangirwa, who came unaccompanied also submitted his bid to the electoral commission. According to the FERWAFA Electoral Commission president and APR secretary general, Adolphe Camarade Kalisa, nomination papers of the three candidates were to undergo scrutiny between November 29 and December 1. From December 8, the commission will receive petitions and hear appeals before the official declaration of successful candidates. Declared candidates will then start official campaigning, which will last until December 29, before the elections are held on December 30. Nzamwita has been president of Rwanda Football Federation since January 2014. editorial@newtimes.co.rw
