THE second round of the national football league has been scheduled for the weekend of February 7-8, according to the local football body, Ferwafa. Ferwafa Chief Executive Officer Jules Kalisa said that the second leg will start early February, after Atraco and APR first leg engagements on the continental scene. “We expect the second leg to start early February so as to give both Atraco and APR ample time to prepare for their continental competitions,” Kalisa said. Kalisa also added that the second round has also been pushed to February to pave way for the 16th African youth championship set for January 18-February 1 in Kigali. The first round came to a close last weekend as Atraco recaptured the top spot on the national league table from APR who were held to a one-all draw (1-1) by Mukura on Saturday. Ugandan import Hamis Kitagenda scored a brace as Atraco feasted on Marines 5-0 at Umuganda stadium. The league’s top scorer Jean Lomami improved on his goal tally after netting his 11th goal of the season. Ismail Habumugisha and Godfrey Kateregga scored the other two goals for the taxi-men. The win left Atraco level on points (24) with APR but the defending champions cruised to the top following their superior goal difference. Fuadi Ndayisenga put the nine-time league champions goal ahead on the 53rd minute but Mukura equalized 15 minutes later through Bodo Ndikumana after a deflection by APR’s captain Elias Ntaganda. Relegation battling side SC Kiyovu shocked title contender Rayon Sport yesterday at Mironko grounds to record their first win of the season. Ildebrande Niyonshuti scored Kiyovu’s lone goal. However, the old giants stay rooted at the bottom of the table with 6 points from11 games. Amagaju playing on home ground in Nyamagabe thumped visitors Kibuye 2-0 courtesy of goals from Jean Jack Manu and Dunde Dunga Mukambura. Electrogaz walloped Police 4-1 at Camp Kigali while Jeunesse played to a goalless draw against AS Kigali on Friday. Ends
