Alain Bacca Kwitonda's penalty miss in the 60th minute proved costly for APR FC who were held to a barren draw by Gasogi United in the first leg of the 2023/24 Peace Cup quarter finals at Kigali Pele Stadium on Wednesday, February 14. The 2022/23 Peace Cup runners-up did not start the game with a host of their key players including Sharaf Eldin Shaiboub who started on the bench whereas Alain Kirasa started athe majority of his starters as Gasogi United were looking to upset APR FC. ALSO READ: Peace Cup: APR pip AS Kigali in crunch encounter Thierry Froger's side had a chance to open the scoring after they were awarded a penalty following an infringement in the 60th minute. Kwitonda stepped up but saw his penalty saved, leaving the army side’s fans far from impressed. Both teams created decent chances neither managed to find the back of the net throughout the game as the game ended 0-0, leaving the pair standing at 50/50 to qualify for the semifinals ahead of the second leg slated for February 21. Elsewhere, at the same venue, Moro Sumaila scored a brace as Police FC beat Gorilla FC 2-0 to put themselves in firm position to qualify for the semifinals. The win eased pressure on Police head coach Vincent Mashami whose team had gone five games without a win. In other fixtures, Rayon Sports set one foot in the semifinals after goals from Hakim Bugingo and Arsene Tuyisenge gave the defending champions a comfortable 2-0 win over Vision FC while Mukura VS and Bugesera FC played out a goalless draw in Nyamata. The second leg will take place on February 21.
