BK celebrates digitisation journey, unveils upcoming digital products

Bank of Kigali, on September 30, celebrated its digitisation journey through an event marked BK Digital Day.The event which took place at BK Arena also saw the bank unveil upcoming digital products including BK Mobile App with new features, Internet Banking 2.0, and BK Digital Lending.According to the CEO of the bank, Diane Karusisi, they are celebrating the work they have been doing, mobilising their customers to use digital services as well as young Rwandans who did great things on an international level which shows that they have boosted their skills in terms of using technology.The new BK Mobile App has an interesting feature which allows a user to onboard themselves and open a bank account with just a scan of their face and ID.Karusisi said that opening a bank account usually takes the person some minutes or an hour, adding that it's a barrier to the bank which prevents them from reaching a bigger number of people as they wish.But with the use of technology, she continued, We want people to open accounts from where they are and start using them. Technology will help us to achieve our goal of reaching many customers and that will earn us more profit.Karusisi also unveiled that BK is digitising loan services to make it easy for its customers, adding that around 40 percent are already using digital services, although they aim to reach 80 per cent in two years with the help of the bank's new and upgraded digital products.She added: We have great people in Bank of Kigali who come to work every day with a sense of responsibility and purpose. We believe we are not just any bank, we are the home bank and we have a responsibility in the critical journey our country has taken.John Rwangombwa, Governor of the Central Bank, insisted on the institution's role to oversee if the technology being used in financial institutions has trustable security to protect the money of the customers.He said they too are enforcing the use of technology in what they do; how bank accounts transact with each other since that is channelled in the central bank 24/7.Rwangombwa declared that they also partner with other government institutions as well as financial institutions to teach people about the benefits of using technology in fintech, what they are required, as well as their rights..
