Fidele Nyirimana has joined league champions Gisagara VC in a two-year deal. / File National volleyball league reigning champions Gisagara VC have appointed Fidele Nyirimana as their new head coach on a two-year contract until end of the 2018/19 campaign. Nyirimana guided Kirehe VC to their first Carre d’As title following a 3-1 triumph over army side APR VC in the final that took place last weekend at Amahoro Indoor Stadium. News of Nyirimana’s appointment was confirmed to Times Sport by Gisagara Volleyball Club president, François Xavier Fashingabo. “Nyirimana is one of the experienced coaches we have in the country, having trained some of the top teams in the national championship—which actually makes him the most competent for the position,” said Fashingabo. Nyirimana replaces Eric Gakwaya, who led Gisagara to this year’s league title. Before joining Kirehe at the start of the just concluded season, former Rwandan international Nyirimana coached National University of Rwanda (NUR) and Rayon Sports Volleyball Club. Gisagara have also signed several new players, namely; Vincent Dusabimana and Eugene Tuyishimire from University of Kibungo (UNIK), Yves Niyonkuru and Peter Bigirimana from Rwanda Energy Group (REG). The club that will represent Rwanda at the 2018 African Champions League has also renewed the contract of Thierry Mugabo, Ivan Dukundane and Sylvestre Matsiko. editorial@newtimes.co.rw
