Dream Taekwondo Club seeks to defend Ambassador’s Cup

Dream Taekwondo Club coach Eugene Ntawangundi says he has picked the best possible fighters as the team bids to defend the Ambassadors Cup title – the two-day event is set for Saturday and Sunday at Amahoro Indoor Stadium. The Gatenga-based club has dominated the annual competition, which is sponsored by the South Korean Embassy in Rwanda, winning the last three editions in both men and women’s categories, and will go into this year’s edition as firm favourites. Ntawangundi has named a strong squad that boasts of some experienced national team fighters like Savio Nizeyimana, who won MVP award at last year’s National Taekwondo Championship. Other notable names on the Dream Taekwondo Club are; Moussa Twizeyimana and Vincent Munyakazi while Aline Ndacyayisenga, who excelled in this year’s National Championship together with her teammate Raissa Umurerwa will lead the women’s assault. Looking ahead to defending their title, Ntawangundi said, “We have selected the best players and I believe they are ready for this year’s competition. They are all committed and determined to fight to retain our title.” “We’re excited to be going into the tournament as defending champions, but at the same time, we expect tough competition from the other teams,” he admitted. According to the organizers, the Rwanda Taekwondo Federation, this year’s edition has attracted 150 fighters from seven countries, namely; Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Somalia, Burundi, and Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and hosts Rwanda competing in different age, gender and weight categories. editorial@newtimes.co.rw
