JEAN Baptiste Hakizimana has failed to find a lasting solution to his course woes since his Rwanda Open heroics. The Rwandan golfer is struggling with poor shot selection in the four-day lucrative MTN Mug of mugs which has been disrupted by heavy downpour. After his wobbling score of 75 on day one, the teenager (19) went a shot worse yesterday after playing four over par (76) at the Par 72 Kitante course. Hakizimana, sponsored by MTN Rwanda was however quick to blame the waterlogged course for his poor performances. “Well, my game is not coming together but the conditions are also not helping. It’s been difficult to play some shots in certain areas of the course,” the frustrated golfer said. By press time, pre-tournament favourites Deo Akope, Emmanuel Ruterana and Kenya’s Dismas Ndiza were still in action. On day one, Ruterana shot three-under par (69) to finish a shot behind Akope. Akope, captain of the Uganda Professional Golfers Association (UPGA) had lived up to his pre-tournament billing, firing an eagle on the par-5 hole No.5 but remained adamant insisting, “There’s still a long way to go. We will get a proper picture of who are in real contention after the third round.” He was also quick to label Ruterana, Rwanda Open runner up Godfrey Mande and Ndiza as his major threats. Sh10m is up for grabs in the Mug of Mugs. Ends
