WESTERN PROVINCE RUSIZI – Residents of Mpinga, Gikundamvura Sector in Rusizi district are constructing a health centre worth over Rwf10 million. This was revealed by Theogene Nsabimana, the Sector Executive Secretary in an interview with (The New Times) on Tuesday. Nsabimana, explained that the residents initiated the idea because they have had to endure long distances to reach the nearest health centre- which is about 6 to 10 kilometres away at Mashesha and Nyabitimbo in the Muganza Sector. Nsabimana said that each resident every week contributes Rwf500 towards the construction, while some financially capable residents have contributed between Rfw300, 000 and 500,000. The seven roomed health facility is expected to be commissioned in late January next year, according to Nsabimana. “The construction of this new health centre in the sector, with funds raised from local residents is a positive indicator that people are creative and mindful of their living conditions,” he said. Drosera Mukamurego, one of the residents, said that access to health services even for expectant mothers and children has been a big problem. She disclosed that parents have got plans to fundraise for the construction of nursery and primary schools in 2009. Ends
