Djamal Mwiseneza’s lone goal was the only difference yesterday as Rayon Sport brightened their chances of claiming its first national football league since 2004. The national U-20 team midfielder was on target five minutes after recess thanks to a well taken Bonaventure Hategikimana to bring life to the full house Amahoro stadium. The six-time champions have now moved one point ahead of the taxi men who slip to third. Mwiseneza easily netted past Atraco’s midfielder Joseph Kabagambe who stood behind him and never bothered to stop the skillful talent from unleashing a thunderbolt past Atraco‘s custodian Eric Ndayishimiye. The taxi-men club wasted several chances to take the lead in the first half; Skipper Jean Lomami and Ugandan import Hamis Kitagenda being the main culprits. The Blues would have taken the lead just after only five minutes however yesteryears golden boy Jimmy Gatete headed wide while Joseph Kaniki also failed to convert for the Blues despite having a wonderful performance throughout the game. Atraco who have now lost twice this season interchanged league positions with Rayon. Atraco slipped to third with 18 points, one point behind Rayon Sport. APR who earned a 3-1 over relegation battling SC Kiyovu reclaimed the lead of the league with 20 points. Elsewhere, Police defeated Kibuye 3-2 away at Gatwaro stadium to go fourth on the league table with 16 points while Electrogaz continued its impressive run as it recorded a 2-0 victory over Marines to claim the fifth position with 13 points. League table bottom side La Jeunesse held Mukura to a goalless draw in Huye to remain at the foot of table while Mukura climbed to seventh position with 12 points. In a shock of the ninth day of the league AS Kigali was beaten by league debutants Amagaju 0-2 in Nyamagabe to keep the Gikongoro-based club out of danger. Ends
