AZAM Rwanda Premier League side AS Kigali have completed the signing of Soana FC forward Frank Kalanda on a three-year deal for a reported transfer fee of US$5,000 (about Rwf4.3m). News of Kalanda’s signing was confirmed on Tuesday evening by AS Kigali team manager, Joseph Nshimiye. It is reported that the Ugandan striker has penned a two-year deal and will earn a salary of Rwf500,000 per month on top of accommodation and other bonuses. “It is important to strengthen our team in preparation for a tough campaign next season. Kalanda is a good player and we believe he will help us achieve our target in the new season,” Nshimiye told Times Sport. Head coach Eric Nshimiyimana noted that, “I know Kalanda will help us in the next two seasons. He is a good striker with wonderful scoring record.” Former Express FC and Uganda Revenue Authority forward, Kalanda scored 18 goals for Soana FC last season while the season before, he scored 23 goals. Before joining Express, Kalanda scored 8 goals in the 2014/15 season for Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) in the Uganda Premier League and he has two goals in four appearances for the Uganda Cranes. The 26-year-old admitted that, “I am happy to be here and I will give my best for the team. I am here to work hard and I believe I will achieve a lot even if I don’t know much about the Rwandan league.” AS Kigali have been busy in the transfer market signing among others; Rwanda International Dominique Savio Nshuti from Rayon Sports on a three-year contract. Others are; striker Jean Claude Ndarusanze from LLB Academic of Burundi, central defender Omar Ngandu from APR FC, striker Emmanuel Ngama (free) and midfielder Kevin Ishimwe from Pepiniere FC, all on two-year contracts. editorial@newtimes.co.rw
