I’m writing from Cape Town, South Africa in response to the report: “Shall we rape our girls because of bad laws?” Paulus Kayiggwa the author wrote about details that may be facts, but what evidence is there to support the stories? Is there anyone in Kigali who would speak for Pastor Charles Murenzi or his wife, Sr. Pastor Jolly Murenzi? Why did the girls take so long to report these events? Why didn’t they speak to their parents and why didn’t their parents come forward? Has anyone wondered about this? Kayiggwa writes: The problem with us Christians is that we see many bad things happening in our churches and keep quiet till we have quit and then we talk. Have we considered the possibility that the Pastor is innocent? Have we considered the possibility that other Christians could be behind the accusations? Is there the possibility of other pastors involved in causing the collapse of this church? This sort of action is also prevalent, sadly, among some Christians and particularly among some Christian leaders. Where is the compassion for the church going through this terrible ordeal? Where is the compassion for Jolly? Has anyone considered what a good woman she is? She is a Godly woman, and a very good pastor, one who loves God’s people very much. Having been to Kigali numerous times and even spoken often at Shining Light Church, I wonder if this is not the work of jealousy and the greedy desire to possess the property on which Shining Light stands. Sadly, there are others who would also prey on the remaining church members. This is the same sort of roots that brought about Genocide in Rwanda. In Acts 2, the Bible tells us that “everyone was together, going from house to house, sharing meals with one another, providing for one another, praying for one another- there was no need among them. I definitely will be praying for those girls who’ve accused Charles, but I will also be praying for Jolly and Charles and the members of Shining Light Church- for they are a family in the midst of great trial and suffering and so in need of our support, love and prayers. I have known Pastors Jolly and Charles Murenzi for several years. Would a good woman like her remain with a man who was doing such things? Would she not look into allegations herself to know what’s true and what’s not? And as pastors, don’t we have a responsibility before God to care for His sheep in such a way that brings abundant life to all of them? Our God is a forgiving and just God. Please pray for all those involved in this very tragic case. May God be with Shining Light Church, the girls claiming harassment and the pastors who ultimately take the brunt of the allegations.
