As age advances, absorption of nutrients is reduced. Therefore the risk of health hazards is increased over the benefits. Fat present in whole milk and milk products like butter and cheese, becomes a source for increase in cholesterol and bad lipids. This becomes a risk factor for chronic health problems like diabetes, heart diseases, e.t.c. Drinking whole milk causes flatulence in elderly and can also cause chronic constipation. Milk use may not be stopped totally, but portions taken can be reduced. Curds can be used in place of whole milk, butter or cheese. Pork, beef, e.t.c. are considered as red meat. Though it provides proteins, vitamin B12, calories, it is yet another source of chronic health problems . It also increases the risk of heart diseases, hypertension, diabetes, e.t.c. Processed meat is a risk factor for many types of cancer like that of stomach, bowels, e.t.c Red meat increases risk of gout as well as kidney stones. Being high in calories it is responsible for obesity and being low in fiber it is a source of chronic constipation as well. Since the health hazards outweigh the benefits, red meat can be stopped totally or just taken occasionally. This depends on the age of your Grandfather and presence or absence of any health problem. Red meat can be substituted by fish, which is considered as lean meat and is more healthy. Fish like salmon, sardines, e.t.c. are rich in vitamin B12. Similarly for those who are vegetarians, soya products also provide vitamin B12.
