120 orphans complete tailoring course

WESTERN PROVINCE RUSIZI — A group of 120 orphans drawn from different Sectors of the Rusizi district were over the weekend awarded certificates after completing a six-months course in tailoring. The training was organised by the Mission of Hope Rwanda (MHR), and funded by the Global Fund. The trainees who included Genocide and Aids orphans were drawn from nine Sectors of Rusizi including Giheke, Nkungu, Kamembe, Nkanka, Nkombo, Butare, Gihundwe, Nyakabuye and Gikundamvura. They included 89 girls and 31 boys mainly child headed families. At the graduation, held at the Methodist Church in Kamembe, Claude Kabutwari, an official of the MHR urged the trainees to use the knowledge they acquired to improve their living standards. “On behalf of Mission of Hope Rwanda, I really congratulate all of you as orphans who have completed training in tailoring. I encourage you to go back to your respective locations and use the skills and knowledge you acquired to teach your fellow orphans who did not attend this training,” Kabutwari said. The acting Mayor, Sivestre Habiyambere, hailed Mission of Hope Rwanda for organising the training which he said would enable the beneficiaries to create their own jobs in order to improve their living conditions. The Mayor also promised the district would always help the orphans to get tenders for making school uniforms for area schools. During the ceremony, the trainees were given sewing machines and uniforms as start up capital. Meanwhile, Mission of Hope Rwanda also donated pigs and rabbits to over 700 orphans in the same Sectors. According to Kabutwari, they have also previously trained several residents on how to fight against HIV/Aids in the region. Ends
