Rwanda Volleyball Federation (FRVB) will hold fresh elections in June to elect a new president to replace Gustave Nkurunziza. Nkurunziza, who had been re-elected for a second term on February 29, resigned together with the Secretary General, Christian Hatumimana and the Treasurer, Jeannette Uwera over allegations of corruption. The three were questioned by Police and cleared of any wrongdoing but they decided to step down. In a letter addressed to FRVB and copied to the Ministry of Sports and Culture, Nkurunziza wrote, “I would like to inform you that, for my own reasons, I have resigned from the position of the president of Rwanda Volleyball Federation with immediate effect.” The Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Sports and Culture, Lt. Col. Patrice Rugambwa, confirmed receiving the letter and revealed that the volleyball federation will hold fresh elections in two months’ time. During the February elections, Nkurunziza had won a second four-year term of office after beating former national team player, Leandre Karekezi. editorial@newtimes.co.rw
