Judges urged on work ethics

WESTERN PROVINCE RUBAVU — The Rubavu district officer in charge of good governance, Martin Habimana has called on Judges in the district to uphold work ethics and remain impartial in order to dispense fair justice to all Rwandans. Habimana was addressing about 95 legal officials who included Judges of the High Court, Lower Courts and court assessors - who had convened for a three-day training session on laws and ethics guiding the judicial profession. The training organised by the Rubavu district and sponsored by UNDP, took place at the Gisenyi cultural centre on November 25. “One of our national development plans is to ensure fair and balanced justice for all Rwandans, that is why the key players in the justice system need to be fully equipped with the laws and ethics of the profession to render better services,” he said and called upon judges to always avoid favouritism in their work. Emile Katisiga, the district’s legal representative, also called upon the participants to make use of the knowledge obtained from the training to provide fair and balanced justice to the people. “Without fair justice, there can not be respect for human rights. Justice is the concept of moral rightness based on ethics, rationality, law, natural law, fairness and equity. A conception of justice is one of the key features of any harmonised society,” said Katisiga. The participants said, the training will help them greatly since they will have time to sit together and discuss various challenges in their profession. “The training will not only equip us with knowledge on new issues but also will provide a platform for us to share and learn from each other, identify challenges and jointly look for solutions,” explained Jean Paul Hategekimana one of the participants.
