Rwanda’s representatives University of Kibungo (UNIK) failed to reach their target at the ongoing 2017 Men’s African Club Championships at Ben Arous Hall in Tunis, Tunisia. Before their departure UNIK head coach Dominic Ntawangundi said that they will be looking to finish among the best top ten teams but now they are playing for 11th to 16th places after losing to Ahly Beni Ghazi to Libya on Friday night. Ahly Beni Ghazi (Libya), Bafia (Cameroon), Finances (Benin) and Espoir (DR Congo) won their respective matches in the playoff for 9th to 12th positions. Ahly Beni Ghazi upset University of Kibungo 3-0 (25-19, 25-16 and 25-22) while Bafia cruised past Alnahda (Sudan) 3-0 (25-23, 25-17 and 25-28). On Sunday, Ahly Beni Ghazi will play Bafia for the 9th and 10th position, whereas UNIK will face Alnahda for the 11th and 12th places. Finances (Benin) defeated their compatriots Police 3-2 (18-25, 17-25, 25-21, 29-27 and 15-13) and Espoir (DR Congo) beat Douanes Burkina Faso 3-1 (29-27, 25-23, 16-25 and 26-24). editorial@newtimes.co.rw
