Acquit all - mothers demand

Mothers from Nyagatare District, Eastern Province yesterday called upon the French court trying Chief of State Protocol, Rose Kabuye, to acquit her and all the officials indicted by French Judge Jean Louis Bruguiere. The mothers who were demonstrating at the Germany Embassy condemned France for trying Kabuye in an anti-terrorist court yet she is a liberator and not a terrorist. “It is too bad to try such a heroic person who liberated us and stopped the 1994 Genocide against Tutsis. That anti-terrorist court is for Bin Laden, Felicien Kabuga and Ignace Murwanashyaka,” one of the protesters said. They called upon the international community to consider arresting the ring leaders in the 1994 Genocide against Tutsis instead of letting them move freely in western countries. “We came here to show our fellow women that even though we are far a way, we are together and feel the same,” one of the women from Nyagatare District told The New Times. Over 50 women who arrived yesterday morning from Nyagatare, spent the whole day praying and sharing inspiring words with their fellow women who have been camped outside the gates of the German embassy in Kigali since November 15, 2008. “She is still in prison, nothing has been changed. As fellow mothers, we are still distressed. She should be released and given total freedom,” one of the women who are on hunger strike said. “She is married, she has children to care for but she has been denied those rights. We have also decided to suffer with her,” another said. “For as long as her dignity is not given back, we shall stay here until Rose Kabuye gets her freedom,” another lady made the group’s resolve clear. Rose Kabuye’s arrest has been condemned worldwide sparking off demonstrations both in the country and abroad. Ends
